MEPS

There were maybe 30 people in on the beach trip yesterday. There were 12 in the van that I rode in. It was fun. We played touch football at the beach, split up for dinner, and had a bonfire to finish off the evening.

I took a friend to her home and took another back to my place so she wouldn't have to be alone that night with her questionable cousin's dad while all her cousins were away. She slept in Kristin's old room. I told my parents her story, and they were happy we could help out. I have really cool parents.

Today after helping out with the toddlers, I just went home. I caught a bit of the 10 o'clock sermon and heard John Mark talking about heaven coming onto earth, and I didn't want to hear that sermon again. And I wanted to read a bit more about MEPS.

I met Sgt. Age at the Holiday Inn by the airport at 4:00. I signed papers and checked into my room. All applicants share a room with one roommate. Mine is a National Guard applicant. He said he was from Grant's Pass, and I believed him instantly. He had a shaved head, goatee, pocket knife, and all black apparel. I think it's funny that a whole city can have a white trash stereotype.

4:30 wake up tomorrow. ASVAB. Physical. Enlistment. I'm looking forward to it.

The marine recruiter convinced me not to be a marine. I had a lot of questions about job availability, and he said if I'm really concerned about that, then the marines probably aren't right for me because marines mainly just join the marines just to be a marine, and they're mainly used just to shoot stuff. They don't even have medical or chaplain MOS's because they might not get to shoot something, and all that extra marksmanship training would go to waste.

I talked to an enlisted air force guy yesterday at the beach trip. He said that the air force has a physical training session in the morning each day, but that's it. I think my conditioning would get worse in the air force boot camp. So that ruled out the air force. Army boot camp makes the air force boot camp sound like a day spa. I want something more intense than the air force / cub scouts.

So I'm planning on enlisting tomorrow. Active duty soldiers are being slated for a boot camp that starts in March, but reservists might get to go sooner. I hope I go sooner.

Week 8

1. GRE. 770 math, 660 verbal. It's high, but it's not Stanford high. I need to talk to grad school admissions people to find out if it's impressive enough. I'm leaning towards taking it again.

2. I haven't worked out for 8 days. I think the rest was good for me. I had tried everything to break my plateau, except for taking time off. So today is going to be intense. I hope I can get up to 165 soon so that I can then just work out for maintenance and devote myself to other things.

3. The Bridge getaway last Thursday was a flop. It was chilly with a small turnout. I'm going to the water slides at Kahneeta with friends from Solid Rock on Saturday.

Yesterday was a cool game of Risk cause Matt was ahead the whole game and Sean and I were trying to hold him off, and I pulled ahead at the end of round 5.
